The weather remained rather gray and dismal in Mountain Home so I decided to "go to the sun" instead of letting it come to me. I heard the mountains were suppose to be bright, sunny and relatively warm so I headed up Highway 20 on January 17, 2009.

Once I got just past Tollgate, Idaho I popped out of the fog and grayness into brilliant blue skies and full sun. The sunshine and snow pack made the drive north and east of Mountain Home quite wonderful as I've hardly seen the sun in the last 6 days.
I continued eastward stopping to take in the scenery near the Little Camas Inn, Castle Rock and then an extended stop in Fairfield Idaho. The last time I was in Fairfield was in October 2007 and it didn't impress me very much. But now it appears that this little town wants to let the world know where it is and why you should visit it. They have a small but prominent sign on Main Street (Soldier Road) that indicated Fairfield is the "Gateway to the Sawtooth Mountains". They also seem to be playing up the "Ski Town" aspect with Soldier Mountain Ski Resort less than 20 minutes from "downtown". Good for you Fairfield and I wish you great success in building a name for yourself.
