Bruneau Valley of Owyhee County has the dubious distinction of being the new home to the "Feral Hog". Bad News!

According to an article on the Capital Press - The West's Ag Website , feral pigs have been spotted by wildlife cameras in the Bruneau Valley south of Mountain Home, Idaho. This is bad news for Idaho as they can spread disease, rip up the landscape and can present a rather dangerous situation if you encounter one of these animals. This concerns me somewhat as I spend a good bit of time down the the Owyhee's.
Hopefully this invasive species sometimes called the European boar, wild boar, wild swine, feral swine or razorback will not gain a foothold in Idaho as they can be almost impossible to eradicate. If you do encounter a feral hog, I suspect it would be a good idea to report the sighting to the Idaho Department of Agriculture and/or Fish and Game.

I can guarantee you that if they are not controlled soon they will be totally out of control. They breed like rabbits and can become very hard to control by hunters. I have hunted them many times throughout 25 years of hunting and know just what kind of threats these pigs pose and the devastation they cause as well as the dangers of hunting them. They are a real nuisance. They can be spotlighted at night but beings the Fish & game won't allow you to spotlight them, that means of hunting is out of the question. If the ranchers want them killed off then they better work with sportsman rather quickly or they will be very sorry they didn't act sooner.

Its bad that the feral hogs are here in Idaho, but the problem after introduction is limited acces on private property. I know a lot of hunters like to eradicate them but are not allowed access or do not know the landowners involved. Therefore eradication will not work since F&G cant control them due to lack of manpower
