With the The Gunfighter Skies 2008 Air Show being held on September 13 and 14, 2008 on Mountain Home Air Force Base, I decided to include some base statistics. As a retiree from the USAF, I often wondered how long Airmen stayed at any one place. I found the answer for our Enlisted members:
The Numbers
| Years on Station | How Long Have They Been at Mountain Home AFB | % |
| 0-1 Years | 1902 | 52.5% |
| 2-3 Years | 978 | 27.0% |
| 4-5 Years | 441 | 12.2% |
| 6-7 Years | 153 | 4.2% |
| 8-9 Years | 88 | 2.4% |
| 10-11 Years | 37 | 1.0% |
| 12-13 Years | 19 | 0.5% |
| 14-15 Years | 8 | 0.2% |
| Total | 3626 | 100.0% |

Air Force Personnel Center
As you can see by the graph and raw data, military personnel seen to move away from Mountain Home AFB starting around their third year. It appears that only a lucky few get to remain in Idaho 6 years or longer.
I wonder how many Airmen come back to MHAFB for a second or even third tour. I have talked to a number of folks who have come back to Mountain Home at least once. I guess the only way assure a longer stay is to do what I did. Retire and move here permanently.
