The Stardust Plaza was a bustling shopping center when I arrived in Mountain Home a little over one year ago. Now this strip mall is all but deserted with only three shops in business.

Carlos' Mexican Restaurants during the summer of 2008.
The most recent
departed business is Carlos' Mexican Restaurant. I hear they moved
down Sunset Strip into a previously closed diner. I'll likely be
heading down to this restaurant in the next few weeks to see how they
are doing.

The Village Art Center looks to be moving out of the Stardust rather soon also. The sign in the front window shows that all their furniture and fixtures are for sale. I was in this store just before Christmas and they had a lot of nice pictures and framing. No word yet on whether the Village Art Center will reopen somewhere else.
Who's Left and
Why?
The only
businesses left in the Stardust Plaza are Radio Shack, Mountain Home
Physical Therapy and Continental Loans. The rumors I'm hearing it
that the Stardust Plaza owners are looking at attracting some
national chains/franchises from Boise. The other rumor was that the
reason all the local businesses moved out of the Stardust was because
rents were recently increased quite dramatically. Hopefully the
plans for the Stardust Plaza works out or the residents of Mountain
Home, our small businesses community and the strip mall will suffer.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Unfortunately, they are no better now than they were then. They are driving businesses away at a time when Mountain Home needs new business the most. It's a shame.
