The weather was gray and dreary when I woke up on Saturday January 17th, 2009. With cabin fever building inside my body I needed to get out Mountain Home and out of the house. I decided that since I haven't been to Soldier Mountain Ski Resort yet, I'd check it out. I had no intention of going skiing today but had hoped it would stoke my will and determination to get out more during the colder months.

Lesson Learned
I would like to
pass on a hint to folks new to this area. Back in October 2007 I
visited Mountain Home for one week before I actually moved here. One
day I took the drive up to Fairfield with the idea of checking out
Soldier Mountain Ski Resort. With only a basic understanding of
where this resort was located, I made my way up Highway 20 hoping to
see signs for Soldier Mountain. Sure enough...I saw signs but it
wasn't for the Soldier Mountain Ski Resort but "Soldier Mountain
Resort". Being new to the area I "assumed" Soldier Mountain
Resort was the place I was looking for. It wasn't! The WRONG
Soldier Mountain Resort is more of a housing development, golf course
and resort. The ski area is about 5 miles to the northeast as the
crow flies but about 15 road miles from the Soldier Mountain Ranch
and Resort.
