On Tuesday, February 9th, 2010 the Mountain Home School Board hosted a Financial Emergency Public Hearing. Local citizens were invited to tell the school board how they think the district could save money. About 7 people stood up to give their opinions.
Overall, the meeting was kind of boring. It started with a board member reading from a sheet of paper. Being sort of hard of hearing, I couldn't understand much of what he was said. Next came another board member who went through the long version of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 budgets. After that, he went on to tell the audience what has already been cut from the budget. Then the best part of the whole meeting was where citizens gave their inputs. Some people had good ideas and other I didn't agree with but at least they attended and were brave enough to stand in front of what I'm guessing was 300 people in the audience.
From what I understand, there has been no decision made on what the 2010-2011 budget will look like or if the citizens will be taxed a little more so we can maintain at least the status quo in our schools.
