Question: Has the WECRD effectively used the tax money they have collected from the hard working citizens of Elmore County and Mountain Home, Idaho to build a community center?
Answer: In the opinion of Tim Bondy, the short and simple answer is NO!
No Shades of Gray When it Comes to MY Tax Money
In 2001-2002, tax monies started flowing into this project to build a community center. In 2010, the only thing the citizens have to show for their forced contributions is an empty plot of land and promises seeming made with fingers crossed.
That's 8-9 years of planning just to construct one building? Would you call this an effective use of your tax dollars?
Sit or Get off the Pot?
Obviously "the district" hasn't been a good steward of our tax money or we would already have something "concrete" to show for it. The time has come for the taxpayers of Elmore County to forcefully pull the the Western Elmore County Recreation District off the pot. Feelings may get hurt, fingers may get burned but this is MY tax dollars and I demand accountability. Who's with me on this issue?
Thanks for visiting and commenting on this political accountability article.

Excellent Question Teri! And no I don't have any expertise to say the WECRD could have built a rec center already. But I do have an opinion and common sense. As we all know nothing has been built in the form of a building after 1 year, 5 years or 10 years of taxes. Very little has been done by the WECRD to bolster recreation in Mountain Home in this time either. This is why I will vote for Judy Mayne and Art Nelson. Maybe they can do what the other directors haven't been able to do...provide recreation and get a recreation building started and completed. I might be wrong about this but I thought the people voted for both items...A building and recreation. Doing 50% of a job is failure any way you look at it. After 10 years doing 0% of a job is criminal.
I suspect you have or think you have the expertise to fulfill “every wish” of the citizens of Mountain Home when it comes to the WECRD issues. I will again ask you what your exact plan would be to make the, now impatient folks, living and paying taxes in the WECRD area satisfied. Current recreation statistics, numbers of people who are saying they MUST have a pool, best available tax figures out to the next 5 years and whether the YMCA will jump on-board. And I'd need all this information before 7PM on Tuesday November 2nd, 2010.
Once all that data is crunched and we are sure the YMCA will be the main organization running our, as yet to be built rec center, then I might consider voting for the current directors. Without these facts and figures available before the Nov 2nd, 2010, I have no reason to believe Jana and Marsh can do any better that Judy and Art. As a matter of fact, I doubt they are half as capable as Judy and Art could be if elected. It would have been nice if Jana could have stuck around during the meeting on Tuesday night but she left without explaining her plans, her expertise and her knowledge how this will all come together. Why would I vote for a person I have no information or confidence in?
Tic-toc Teri...get all the information together and present to data to the tax payers before the election and maybe you can change our minds.

Tim, I do not have a plan any more than you do. But I can not imagine that people are that impatient that they want current tax money going to recreation projects just because they ask for money. None of these projects have done their homework, created a business plan and actually invested money of their own in their projects before coming to the WECRD or the City. But Art thought these projects should have been funded. So if this is what he is going to do with the monies he won't get my vote.
Judy talks about lowing taxes actually I know my taxes will go up along with others with a house under 70,000 taxable.
Talk about common sense! Do you really think tax payers want to see their monies just spent each year with nothing to show for it. Come on now I bet on the tax payers want to see something that is still standing for years to come. Judy and Art talked about spending! spending! spending! Free! Free! Free recreation. How are they ever going to have enough money to even have a building if they are so busy spending money on free recreation.
Now that we have the money I believe Jana and Marsha will vote to start building. Up until now there was not enough money to start anything.Where would the WECRD be if they would have not had a goal. Do you really believe most people voted to tax them self's so they could have more of the same type of recreation they were already being offered? Has Judy, Art or you for that fact actually gone door to door and talked to the citizens. If you do not believe the surveys what will you believe. Try going door to door and ask people?
One thing I will be pushing for when Marsha and Jana get re-elected is for the board to move forward on building what they can build with the money they have. ( now that they can because they have money)

Teri:
We see things in a completely different light. The way I see it, the three current directors really don't have a plan for recreation. I say this because I doubt the YMCA will accept Mountain Home. So with that thought in my mind, I'd think there isn't much use keeping them around. Let's get fresh ideas and thing moving in Mountain Home recreation. Judy and Art volunteered and they have a vision. This vision certain doesn't fit into your thinking. But I understand their vision and so do most people who have read my website. The WECRD hasn't given any money to recreation because there isn't a business plan, organizational or personal money involved yet? Where is this written? Are there any written rules for getting my tax money used for recreation? Or it this just a “policy”? Information is power for the people. Maybe the current directors want to retain that power while leaving recreation floundering in a bank account?
As far as asking if I think the people of Mountain Home want their tax money spent on recreation with nothing to show for it. What you left out was, the citizen would get RECREATION. And there is the problem. The 3 current directors must believe RECREATION is not what the citizen want.
I'm more and more confused with your theory of saying you'd push the current directors to build something with the money they have. Why not throw your weight behind the candidates, Art and Judy, who are willing to do exactly that? Also, you say you don't have a plan for this whole mess? And the current directors don't really have a viable plan. It sounds like you need to support, campaign and vote for Judy and Art just by what you wrote in the last comment.
Just vote for Art Nelson and Judy Mayne for WECRD Director on Tuesday November 2nd, 2010.

Well I just spent the last three or four days going door to door talking to as many citizens as possible and they still want a recreation center not the same old same old. So I will still have to vote as those I have talked to.
If Art and Judy spend all the money on current recreation they will not have a monies for a building.
I hope before you run for any election you please actually get out and go door to door and talk with the citizens. It really is rewarding. If people would have really viewed things Art and Judy's way I might have had to re think things. But this is not what I got from my door to door conversations.
Oh and by the way Judy and Art have no plans of building a recreation center the plan is to build a sports complex to house the sports we have now inside during the winter. If they don't spend all the money first.
It was nice debating with you. But my vote goes with the majority of those I have talked to door to door.
We will see what happens tomorrow.

Tim, so your saying saving the tax money, going after other funding to build what the citizens wanted is not beeing a good steward of our tax money? So 5 years ago what could have been built with the money? Of for that fact up until now what could have been built? Do you have the figures or expertise. What do you think the tax payers would have said if you would have given them other than what they had asked for. Why do you think the highschool has never been built?
